(Page 1 for my EX500 Project)

On the first weekend in April Belinda and I are heading down to San Antonio to pick up a red 1988 EX500. We're planning on buying it from a San Antonio TSBA member as a project bike. Either for Belinda to learn on (riding that is :) or maybe even as an inexpensive track bike. Maybe. We shall see. Hopefully it doesn't need too much work to get back into running/riding condition. It's reportaedly been sitting up in a garage since 1996! So no doubt it will need some basics like new fluids, battery, tires, etc. But it "should" be a pretty straight forward project as long as there is no previous damage to anything internal. I rebuilt a little EX250 (Ninja 250) years ago (for my first race bike) so I'm thinking this should be a similar deal. But... I'd rather not have to rebuild the head (top end) like I did on the 250. Again, we shall see.

We have not seen any pictures of the bike yet but here is what we are hoping it looks like :-0

Stock 1988 EX500 with lower cowl (this is what our project bike should resemble).
1988 EX500 with a 1989 (all black) frame and no lower cowl. Still looks good though!
