Wushu literally translates to martial(wu) art(shu).
After a number of years studying Shaolin Long Fist kung-fu I recieved my 2nd degree black belt at the Chinese Martial Arts Institute in Farmers Branch, TX (here in the Dallas area). It was a long and difficult road at times but I truely believe that I have learned a great deal about myself, about others, and about martial arts in general. Although I have learned much I feel there is still a lifetime of information about Chinese martial arts that I have yet to learn. Following this train of thought I have investigated, studied, read, and researched many other martial arts (primarily Chinese in origin) over the past several years. One 'type' of martial art style that has intrigued me the most has been the so-called "internal styles" of the Chinese martial arts. The three main "internal styles" are :

  • Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) : Grand Ultimate Style

  • Xingyiquan (Xing-I Chuan) : Mind Intent Style

  • Baguazhang (Ba Gua Zhang) : Eight Trigram Palm

  • Through much time and energy researching Chinese martial arts schools in the Dallas area, in north Texas, and even around the U.S. I finally found a school/teacher (in DFW) that offered everything I had been looking for in a complete Chinese Martial Arts system. This was among several reasons that my wife and I decided to leave CMAI to train elsewhere. If you're curious what some of the other reasons were or want to know where we are now feel free to contact me to find out more. So, in December of 2003 my wife and I began training at another school in the DFW area. Other styles/systems that have become of interst to me are :

  • Jiamen Chanquan (Chiao Men Chang Chuan) : Islamic Style Long Fist

  • Mizong Quan (Mi Tsung Chuan) : Lost Track Style

  • Piguazhang (Pi Gua Zhang) : Splitting Deflecting Palm

  • Bajiquan (Ba Ji Chuan) : Eight Ultimate Fist/Style (the Bodyguard Style)
